BEAM is a project-based entrepreneurship program in which every student launches a real business. Students learn the concepts, retain them, and apply them โ each lesson pairs direct instruction and vocabulary with hands-on building, and every lesson ends with a graded knowledge check. Because students both master and apply the material, BEAM naturally advances multiple recognized standards at once โ social-emotional, technology, financial literacy, and career readiness.
This document maps BEAM to four widely adopted frameworks. Use it to support adoption, satisfy elective/CTE requirements, and report outcomes to your administration and funders.
BEAM goes deep... and makes it fun. Every lesson is built for dynamic learning and lasting retention:
| Element | What it does |
|---|---|
| Direct instruction | Each week opens with a clear, taught lesson (video + written study guide) covering the concepts and vocabulary. |
| Vocabulary & concept mastery | A built-in glossary of ~30 business and AI terms with flip-cards and audio โ students learn and retain the language of business. |
| Graded knowledge checks | Every lesson ends with a quiz that tests concept recall, gives instant feedback and explanations, and can be retaken until mastered. |
| Applied practice | Students immediately apply what they learned by building a real component of their business โ cementing the concept through use. |
| Measured growth | Founder DNA pre/post assessment documents character and skill development across the program. |
CASEL's five core competencies are the national backbone of SEL, and as of 2026, 27 states have K-12 SEL standards built on them. BEAM's Founder DNA character system is measured pre/post, giving you documented SEL growth data.
| CASEL Core Competency | How BEAM develops it |
|---|---|
| Self-Awareness | The Founder DNA assessment has students identify their strengths, values, and growth areas at baseline and graduation โ building emotional and self-knowledge. |
| Self-Management | Running a real business demands goal-setting, follow-through, and the weekly "CEO routine" โ students regulate effort and manage tasks toward real outcomes. |
| Social Awareness | Students study real customers, identify problems worth solving, and practice empathy by designing an offer around others' needs. |
| Relationship Skills | Customer service, sales conversations, reviews, and (in-person) collaboration and Market Day build communication and interpersonal skill. |
| Responsible Decision-Making | Pricing, money safety, ethics, capacity limits, and business formation all require weighing consequences and making sound, safe choices. |
BEAM is an authentic, AI-forward technology experience โ students direct AI, build real digital products, and publish live. This maps directly onto the ISTE Student Standards.
| ISTE Student Standard | How BEAM develops it |
|---|---|
| 1.1 Empowered Learner | Students use the BEAM portal and AI tools to set goals and drive their own build, at their own pace. |
| 1.2 Digital Citizen | Explicit money-safety and online-safety curriculum: scam recognition, login privacy, protecting personal information, service-area vs. home address. |
| 1.3 Knowledge Constructor | Students research markets, validate ideas, and build knowledge into a real plan. |
| 1.4 Innovative Designer | The heart of BEAM โ students design a product, brand, and website, iterating like real designers. |
| 1.5 Computational Thinker | Students direct AI to build software, structure data (CRM, trackers), and design automations โ real applied computational thinking. |
| 1.6 Creative Communicator | Branding, copywriting, product photography, social content, and pitching all build creative digital communication. |
| 1.7 Global Collaborator | Students launch a business reachable by anyone online, and (in cohorts) learn with and from peers. |
The Council for Economic Education & Jump$tart standards organize personal finance into six topics. BEAM makes them concrete โ students don't study money, they earn and manage it.
| Financial Literacy Topic | How BEAM develops it |
|---|---|
| Earning Income | Students generate real revenue from a business they own โ the most direct lesson in earning there is. |
| Spending | Students manage startup costs, supplies, and pricing decisions with real trade-offs. |
| Saving & Investing | Profit tracking, reinvestment, and capacity planning teach the basics of growing what you earn. |
| Managing Credit & Risk | Business formation (sole proprietor vs. LLC), refunds, and money-safety introduce risk management age-appropriately. |
| Money Management | The CRM, money trackers, and weekly CEO review build hands-on money-management habits. |
BEAM fits naturally as a CTE or entrepreneurship elective and builds the durable, marketable skills workforce-readiness initiatives target.
| Career-Readiness Skill | How BEAM develops it |
|---|---|
| Entrepreneurship | Students go idea โ brand โ product โ launch โ operations โ the full entrepreneurial cycle, for real. |
| Digital & AI Literacy | Fluency directing AI tools โ the single most in-demand emerging workforce skill. |
| Communication & Sales | Pitching, customer service, and marketing build professional communication. |
| Problem-Solving & Initiative | Every week presents a real build challenge students must own and solve. |
| Professional Systems | SOPs, CRM, operations, and capacity planning mirror real workplace systems. |
